Policeman remanded over alleged killing of 56-yr-old driver

LAGOS — AN Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court has ordered that an alleged killer policeman, Shittu Kazeem, 40, be remanded in prison pending the advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.
Kazeem was alleged to have shot and killed a 56-year-old driver during a purported stop and search operation at Agric Bus Stop, Badagry Expressway, Lagos.
The accused was said to have on February 12, 2012, shot the deceased following alleged refusal to stop as ordered by the accused.
His plea was not taken as Magistrate M.O. Olubi referred the case to the office of the DPP for further advice and directed that he be kept in prison pending the advice from the DPP.
His lawyer, Titus Oddo, had argued in vain for bail, contending that the charge should have been amended to manslaughter, because the accused was at his duty post during the incident.
The matter was adjourned till 27 March, for the reading of the DPP’s advice.
